The Macedonian alphabet or Македонска азбука is based on the Cyrillic script with several modifications.

The Macedonian alphabet is composed of thirty-one letters. Five of the letters are vowels and the other twenty-six are consonants.

The Macedonian orthography is phonemic. This system implies that each letter in the alphabet corresponds to a single sound. As a result of this system, it is very easy to learn how to read in Macedonian as words are read as they are spelled, with some minor exceptions.
